Dwarf Fortress 20th Anniversary Archival Collector’s Edition Now Available for Pre-Order
In a press release, publisher Serenity Forge and developer Bay 12 Games announced that Dwarf Fortress 20th Anniversary Archival Collector’s Edition is now available for pre-order. Serenity Forge did not reveal the product’s release date.
Serenity Forge mentioned that the collector’s edition was “created to honor two decades of history and community, this edition celebrates the legacy of the past 20 years with its fans.” Dwarf Fortress was initially released in 2005, utilizing ASCII graphics, and was distributed as freeware.
Dwarf Fortress 20th Anniversary Archival Collector’s Edition contains the following:
- Gorlak Plushies
- Urist Bottle Opener Keychain
- Physical Game CD
- Soundtrack CD
- Steam Download Code
- Cloth Map Poster
- Exclusive Art and Stories Booklet
- Lenticular Warranty Card
- Collector’s Edition Box Art
Lauded by critics for its complexity, the game has attracted a cult following. Not only that, but it’s also one of the games that participated in the Museum of Modern Art’s history of video gaming exhibit.
Dwarf Fortress is available on Steam, and has moved away from its rough, ASCII graphics. The game now has a graphical interface. The developers call it a construction/management/roguelike simulation game, and it has been in development since 2003 to this day.
