Xbox posts hiring ads for finance officers as company faces financial challenges

In early October 2025, two hiring advertisements on Microsoft’s website were spotted directly relating to being able to turn around the finances of the company’s gaming division. The two ads were for a gaming finance transformation lead and a gaming content and studios finance lead.

Looking at the two ads, it seems that the gaming content and studios finance lead will work closely with the studios. One of the responsibilities written on the ad was “develop a champion a holistic financial strategy for multi-billion-dollar gaming franchises, driving execution and accountability.”

The gaming finance transformation lead, on the other hand, will be partnering with finance, IT and business stakeholders to “drive strategy.” Additionally, they will also “accelerate and drive financial transformation efforts for acquisitions and system consolidations, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.”

These ads have seemingly popped up in tandem with the announcement that the Xbox Game Pass will increase in price. In the same vein, Microsoft also announced that it will launch a free cloud gaming plan, but it will be supported by ads.

Recently, there have been reports that the price Xbox Game Pass price increase was driven by the company’s loss due to putting major titles in the subscription service. Microsoft reportedly lost more than $300 million in sales because it added Call of Duty to the catalog.
