Nintendo revs up Switch 2 production, targeting record-breaking first-year sales

Nintendo requested Switch 2 suppliers to produce 25 million units of the console by the end of March 2026, as the company is targeting record first-year sales of the gaming hardware, according to a Bloomberg report dated Oct. 17, 2025.

It seems like the corporation behind the Nintendo Switch 2 expects demand to rise during the winter holiday period and then remain steady into the new year.

As of Aug. 1, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 6 million units since its launch on June 5, 2025, while its predecessor saw roughly 4.7 million units sold in the first two months.

The main risks for the Nintendo Switch 2 remain from US tariffs that may affect the consoleโ€™s pricing, and the company might need to follow Microsoft Gaming and Sony Entertainment in raising US prices of its consoles.

As of the time of writing, the Nintendo Switch 2 is 34th on the list of best-selling game consoles, while the Nintendo Switch, with a total of 153.10 million units sold, keeps third place behind only the Nintendo DS with 154.02 million and the PlayStation 2 with 160.63 million.
