MiCA license opens a gateway to Europe
The French Financial Markets Authority has granted Relai authorization to become a Crypto-Asset Service Provider under the EU’s MiCA Regulation. As one of the first bitcoin companies to obtain this license, Relai is now set to expand its European market reach, starting with France.
Since its inception in 2020 by Julian Liniger and Adem Bilican, Relai has been providing a Bitcoin-only app that allows anyone to buy and sell Bitcoin within minutes. With over 600,000 app downloads and over 90,000 users, the Swiss-licensed financial service provider has already reached over $1 billion in trading volume.
The receipt of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) license from the French Financial Markets Authority (AMF) not only makes Relai one of the first to hold this license, it but also opens avenues for European expansion. Building on its established customer base in Switzerland and Italy, the MiCA lincense enables the startup to open new markets in France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, and the rest of Europe. It will also enable extending Relai’s regulated services, offering a range of features designed to enhance accessibility and transparency, such as:
- Instant SEPA – Everyone in the European Union (EU) can buy Bitcoin within seconds.
- Higher Trading Limits – Users will have the ability to buy more BTC for their Euros.
- A Fixed Price – Users will see the exact price when creating their order, ensuring complete transparency of costs and conversion rates.
- Educational Content – Dedicated content with great learning initiatives.
- Events Across Europe – Relai will host and sponsor dedicated events in the EU.
- Best-in-Class Security – The app will utilize the latest security technology.
In line with the MiCA license, Relai has strengthened its leadership team with a new advisory board comprising industry veterans, Jean Guillaume, Daniel Astraud, and Herve de Kerdrel.
“We’re incredibly proud to be one of the first Bitcoin companies to get the MiCA license,” said Julian Liniger, Co-Founder and CEO at Relai AG, Switzerland. “This is a breakthrough not just for us, but for the whole Bitcoin industry across Europe. Our goal is clear: Bringing Bitcoin to as many people as possible. Simple, secure, regulated,” adds Adem Bilican, Co-Founder and President at Relai EU.
