GPD Win 5 to Open Preorder, Marketed to be the Most Powerful Handheld Gaming Console

The GPD Win 5 is scheduled to open its preorders on Sept. 25, with shipping estimated to begin around November; the handheld console is marketed as the most powerful handheld in the market.

The GPD price points were revealed to begin at approximately $1448, with the starter coming with the Ryzen AI Max 385 APU, 32 GB of RAM, and 1 TB of storage. For the more powerful Ryzen AI Max + 395 variants, the minimum is $1,650, with the GPD’s dock, extra battery, and Biwin 1517 Mini SSD costing $93 for each piece.

Here are the handheld consoles’ specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 or Ryzen AI Max 385
  • GPU: AMD Radeon 8060S or Radeon 8050S
  • RAM: 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB, shared between CPU and GPU, LPDDR5x @ 8000 MT/s
  • Storage: 1TB, 2TB, or 4TB, NVMe M.2 @ PCIe 4.0 speeds, MicroSD Card Slot, External SSD Slot
  • Display: 7″ 120Hz, 1920×1080, Freesync enabled, LTPS LCD
  • Battery: 80Wh, Externally Mounted, Can be Removed when Docked.
  • I/O: Features 1x USB4, 1x USB3.2 gen2, 1x USB3.2 gen1 Type-C ports, 1x DC Power Port, Wi-Fi 6E, and BT 5.3
  • Software: Pre-Installed with Windows 11, Supports Bazzite

With a price much higher than that of the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, the upcoming handheld is catered more for enthusiasts. When comparing the specs, the GPD Win 5 is undeniably more powerful than the vast majority of its competitors, but the hardware compensates for a high price point. The device is so powerful that it requires an external battery to mount at the back of the device. During its initial launch, only 600 units will be made available. The 128 GB model of the GPD Win 5 will not be available during the first wave of preorders.
