Google Launches AI Agent Powered by Gemini to Assist Android Players

An AI assistant available while playing games downloaded from Google Play was presented by Aurash Mahbod, Vice President and General Manager of Google Play Games, via a post on the company’s product blog The Keyword on Sept. 23, 2025.

Powered by Gemini Live, the in-game overlay called Google Play Games Sidekick can curate and organize relevant gaming info while providing direct access to company’s AI chat-bot for real-time guidance, allowing players to stay in the game.

Sidekick is about to provide players real-time conversational help from Gemini, so there will be no need to leave the game to seek out tutorials or walkthroughs.

The AI gaming assistant uses Gemini Live’s screen sharing capabilities to understand the title’s context and deliver in-game guidance with verbal tips.

Notably, earlier in 2025, similar AI gaming assistants were launched by Microsoft as Copilot for Gaming, an AI assistant integrated into the Xbox mobile app, and by Nvidia as Project G-Assist, an AI-powered assistant designed for PC gamers.

The launch date of Google Play Games Sidekick hasn’t been announced yet.
