The Outlast Trials Update adds new PvP game mode, Invasion

On Oct. 21, 2025, The Outlast Trials has entered Season 4.2, which adds a new permanent game mode called Invasion. This update also sees the return of Program Geister, a new time-limited catalog and a new in-game store for players.

The Invasion game mode is perhaps the biggest addition to the game. It’s a PvP game mode where players will join as a Reagent or an Imposter. The latter will have a chance to invade the trial and sabotage the trial. Only a limited number of Imposters can invade a trial at a given time.

Two new MK-Challenges are also added to the game:

  • Beguile the Children – The television screen is the retina of the mind’s eye, where anything is true and everything is possible, especially when the audience cannot see the tools that are shaping their mind. Take control of the broadcast, reshape the subliminal message, and we will let you out.
  • Investigate the Minotaur – Corporate power and dynastic wealth are the cornerstone of free societies, but only so long as extracurricular activities can be kept quiet. Once private hobbies become public scandals, the guilty must be exposed and destroyed so more tedious dynasties can be put in place. Find the evidence of the Buffalo Minotaur’s crimes, bring it to the press, and we will let you out.

As mentioned above, the Program Geister is returning this season. Players will be able to earn event tokens by completing Trials and Geister Tasks. There are five “Program Geister Variators” that will spice up every run, which range from More Imposters, No Player Names and even Enraged Enemies.

The first part of the event will take place from Oct. 21 until Nov. 4, while the second part will start on Nov. 4 and end on Nov. 18.

The Outlast Trials was released on March 5, 2024, for the PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game serves as a prequel to both Outlast and Outlast 2, where players have become test subjects on different trials.
