Pico Park: Classic Edition developer unintentionally makes game perpetually free on Steam
On Oct. 5, 2025, Pico Park creator Shunsuke Miyako announced that the game Pico Park: Classic Edition had accidentally been made free. He said that due to Steam’s policies, turning a game free twice will lock out the creator from making it paid again.
“I tried updating it and going back to paid, but I forgot that once you go from paid to free, you can never go back to paid!” said Miyako in an X post that was translated via Google Translate. While this might be devastating to some indie developers, it seems that Miyako is pretty fine with it. “If you enjoy this free version, try the rest of the series,” he added.
The first time Pico Park: Classic Edition was made free, was in 2021 during the release of the original Pico Park on Steam. As of the writing of this article, there are three Pico Park games on Steam: Pico Park, Pico Park: Classic Edition and Pico Park 2.
Pico Park: Classic Edition is a multiplayer puzzle game, and the specific edition that was mistakenly made free can accommodate up to 10 players. The game currently has a very positive review score on Steam and has even reached a new all-time peak player on Oct. 7, possibly due to it being free.
