Third-Person Shooter SAROS Gameplay Revealed During Sony’s State of Play
A first look at SAROS’s gameplay was revealed during Sony’s State of Play presentation on Sept. 24, 2025. SAROS is scheduled to release on March 20, 2026. Within the gameplay trailer, Gregory Louden, the Creative Director at Housemarque for SAROS, shared some in-game mechanics for the third-person shooter, exclusive to the PlayStation 5. The gameplay trailer was captured on PlayStation 5 at 60 FPS using Unreal Engine 5.
Set in the world of Carcosa, a shape-shifting, hostile alien planet, SAROS follows Arjun Devraj, a Soltari enforcer, as he fights for survival on the lost colony under a foreboding eclipse. Along the way, he finds Nitya Chandran, thereby beginning to ensemble a team.
Within the latest trailer, the developers showcased the various dodging and parrying mechanics. Numerous mob battles were shown, alongside what appear to be major boss encounters.
During combat, players can wield a Soltari shield, thereby defending and absorbing projectiles. Upon sufficient charge, the player can then launch the charged energy using their power weapon, described as “Eclipse-driven weaponry.” The game borrows roguelike system mechanics through its “Second Chance” system, which allows the player always to come back stronger. The developers drew inspiration from its previous title, Returnal. Returnal reportedly sold over a million copies for the PlayStation 5.
